Peer Power for Coordinators

"The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to him his own." -- Benjamin Disraeli

A Peer Power group Coordinator is someone who oversees the program and the development and growth of their Peer Power group.  Each group is unique to its area, and student's needs and interests.  A strong value of Peer Power is providing a way for those needs and interests to be realized in the lives of the students and in the life of their community.

What does a Peer Power Coordinator do?

Here are some of the activities of a Peer Power Coordinator:
  • Provide intensive involvement at the start-up phase of the Peer Power group.
  • Provide ongoing availability and support to group members and mentors.
  • Monitor and support group member and mentoring relationships.
  • Seek feedback, listen to concerns and engage in problem-solving as needed.
  • Act as a resource for ideas and information.
  • While letting students take the lead, educate and guide them in areas such as goal-setting, communication skills, self-awareness, independent living skills, problem solving, and activity planning.
  • Assist with program administration and operation.
  • With the help of the Peer Power group, develop a resource library
  • Contributes to and participates in statewide Peer Power activities.
  • Provides marketing and outreach that build community relationships

Peer Power Coordinators and the Community

"One should guard against preaching to young people success in the customary form as the main aim in life. The most important motive for work in school and in life is pleasure in work, pleasure in its result, and the knowledge of the value of the result to the community."  -- Albert Einstein

Peer Power Coordinators provide their group members a source to new life in their communities.  Each group member is offered the opportunity to become involved in ways that support their interests and strengths and the strengths of their community.
