Peer Power for Parents

Welcome to the Parent section of Peer Power!  We hope this information will provide you with a strong sense of excitement and comfort knowing that your son or daughter will be sharing one of the best experiences of their life with Peer Power.

Watching your child become more independent can be difficult and supporting them through this journey confusing.  However, youth with disabilities can gain great accomplishments as their parents and families support the growth of their independence.

Peer Power is an opportunity for youth with all types of disabilities to develop a sense of personal power by expressing themselves and exploring their ideas and choices all within equal relationships with their peers.  Along with support from family, Peer Power members develop a sense of independence by becoming an active participant in their school, their IEPs, health care, and community life and planning their future.

We often hear parents say that their greatest wish for their son or daughter is to have a peer group, a place where their child can talk about and explore their ideas and share experiences with others who understand what it is like to be in the same place they are.  Peer Power provides this opportunity and more.

To learn more about how your son or daughter can enjoy the Peer Power experience please review the Find Us page to see if there is a Peer Power group in your area.

If there isn't a Peer Power group located in your area, please contact Cheryl Schiltz for information.
